Alas...the weekend is over and once again it was all-too-short. Today marks the beginning of a new week. Now is the time to look back and remember the weekend that was...how fleeting that time is.
Now It's time for Monday Mourning...
This is more than just a weekend recap since I haven't posted in awhile. Here are some bullets to catch up:
The Leafs Turn Over A New One...Or Do They?
The Toronto Maple Leafs finally smartened up and put their lame-duck GM out of his misery. They finally seem to be saying and doing the right things. Cliff Fletcher will take over in an interim role (thankfully) and they're going to hire a smart hockey man and give him the autonomy he needs to build a winner. Even if it means losing for a few years (this is all sounding so familiar). That's right, according to Richard "the puppet master" Peddie, the new GM will have the same power as the Raptor's GM.
Of course, we should have known better than that... Check out the video of the press conference where Peddie announces Fletcher. Click forward to the 4:40 mark and watch as Peddie mouths along with Fletcher's speech. It's as if Peddie knew exactly what Fletcher was going to say...or maybe Peddie wrote the speech for him. He does it again just after the 5:00 mark. Either Peddie wrote the speech or he at least read it and OK'd it. Either way, this doesn't sound like complete autonomy. So it would seem that the more things change, the more they stay the same.
Owen Survives his first year!
Owen turned 1 year on Jan 25th and to celebrate the fact that he survived, Tanya and I threw him a big party. All of his friends were there. I don't know how a 1 year-old has so many friends already! I don't have that many friends!
KITT Is Coming!
So I wrote about a Night Rider movie back in November. As it turns out, it's not a movie, it's a weekly television show and it premiers this month! Shay from TFTH sent me this link and this link to get you ready. As much as I hate to admit it...I'm intrigued. I'll be watching when it airs.
Owen's First Steps
Fresh off his first birthday, Owen decided he'd take his first unassisted steps this past Saturday. It was AWESOME! Every time this kid does something new, I'm blown away. Now things are just gonna start moving that much faster.
Rock Band
This past Saturday, Tanya convinced me to let her buy the new Rock Band game for our PS2. That's right, you didn't misread it...I said she convinced me. In fact she called every place in Newmarket and ended up driving over an hour to Barrie and back to pick one up. That night we played until 2 am along with my brother, his buddy, our cousin and his fiancee. It's an addictive game and my wife is officially the coolest wife EVER!
Superbowl Was A Super Game!
Yesterday we went to our friend's house for a superbowl party and what a game it was! Admittedly, I'm not a huge NFL fan. I'm more of a CFL fan since in that league I have a rooting interest in the Toronto Argonauts. But this year with the whole New England story, I got fished in to watching, and I watched with great interest throughout the playoffs and I looked forward to last night's game.
I didn't care which team won since either way I was either going to see history being made or a 'Giant' upset. It was a close, defensive game. Quarterbacks were being sacked and knocked down left, right and center! It wasn't a pretty game but it was intriguing. When New England finally scored the TD in the 4th and began all their celebrating, you had a sense that New York wasn't done yet. Sure enough, the ugly-duckling Manning led his team down the field and scored an improbable TD with little time left.
In the end, Manning got the MVP, but I think the Giants' defensive line deserved to share the honour. They were unbelievable! They were the reason the Giants won. Eli did just enough to win, but his defense kept him within striking distance.
As for the Pats...you got the sense that regardless of how battered they got by that Giants defense, they never doubted they'd win the game and as a result, maybe they didn't make the necessary adjustments. For a team that didn't have to face much adversity throughout the season, I think they just felt all they needed was that one big play from Brady to Moss that never happened. When New England ran the ball they had some success, but Brady refused to run it down the stretch and that was their downfall.
In the end it was a game for the ages. Congrats to the Giants and their fans, they were full marks for their win last night!
This Is Me Tagged
I've been tagged by Procrasto over at Maybe Tomorrow. So I'll be collecting my thoughts and hopefully posting soon.
Alas...the weekend is over and once again it was all-too-short. Today marks the beginning of a new week. Now is the time to look back and remember the weekend that was...how fleeting that time is.
