I'm editorializing on my blog. It's a nice place to do this sort of thing. It's my release and response to such an atrocity. I'm generally a pacifist and anti-gun. But when I see what is becoming of our once-safe country, I get angry.

What I wrote is as much a comment on Mr. Kimveer's actions, as it is a statement to anyone else who may have seen what he did and—for some, unexplicable reason, deep down inside—may think that what he did was cool or heroic. I know it's unbelievable to think anyone could think this way, but trust me, they're out there. No one was expected to look up to the assailants of Columbine, yet, this asshole was clearly touched by that event, and not in the way most normal people were.

Is this hate? You betcha, I hate anyone who shrugs off the idea of taking human life the same way one would step on an ant. I hate anyone who will shoot someone else because of some perceived violation of that person's respect. I hate, HATE Mr. Kimveer because he brought back that horror of Columbine, and brought it here, close to home. I'm sure he's had a tough life, but many others have had tougher. Some have recovered well, others have lost all hope and taken their own lives—which is a selfish act, but fine, whatever. But few decide that before they go, they'll have a little fun with the gun. Like in the video games. That shows me a special kind of evil. A kind that I have no problem hating.

And don't get me wrong, I'm not one of those people who blame the video games, music or goth culture, those are cop-outs. Convenient excuses. They're not even symptoms.

To paraphrase Kimveer's own words, "the world sucks". He's right, in many ways it does suck. What did he do to make it better?

Life is about choices. Mr. Kimveer exercised his right to choose to end his own life. He wanted to die, let him die. However, he chose to arrogantly & selfishly take away the RIGHTS of Anastasia to LIVE. His choice also took away the RIGHTS of every student and facility member in Dawson College to live peacefully without fear. From what i understand from the articles i have read, Mr. Kimveer also had an opportunity to show mercy to a wounded student, and still chose to answer this plea with a spray of bullets.
Compassion, empathy, kindness, sympathy, and tolerance...... those emotions i will direct towards the victim and survivors of this atrocity. Disgust, disbelief, anger, and yes, HATE for the actions taken … these emotions are directed at and completely earned by Mr. Kimveer.
While some have had a difficult road in life, no prior event/experience in one’s life excuses the choice to blatantly disregard the value of a human life and to take a life so callously. There is no viable excuse for his behaviour. He made his choice yet he does not have to face the outcome…..The family of his victim, the survivors and his own family will have to live with the consequences. Mr.Kimveer is a coward. Hate barely describes the feelings his actions have brought forth. To choose to be repulsed by and HATE Mr.Kimveer's actions is our human right.
